The polynomial f(x) leaves remainders 2 and 3 when divided by (x - 1) and (x - 2) respectively. What will be the remainders when f(x) is divided by (

x^3

- 3x + 2) ?

Solution:

(x–1)(x–2)=x^2–3x+2

The required remainder will be of the form (ax + b)
f(1) = 2 and f(2) = 3
Using these values in

(ax+b)

we get

\;\;a+b=3

2a+b=2

⇒a=1,b=1

∴ Required remainder = (x + 1)
