Solution:

Let the intercepts be a and

1/a

Equation of line :

x/a+y/(1/a)=1

or ,

x/a+ay=1

Since it passes through

(1,–6),

1/a-6a=1⇒1-6a^2=a⇒6a^2+a-1=0

⇒6a^2+3a–2a–1=0

⇒3a(2a+1)–(2a+1)=0

⇒(3a–1)(2a+1)=0

∴a=1/3,1/2

For

a=1/3

, equation of line :

3x+y/3=1

⇒9x+y=3

⇒9x+y–3=0
