A rectangular plot R of perimeter 46 metres has area 120 square metres. The area of the square whose side is equal to the diagonal of R, is

Solution:

l+b=46/2=23

and

lb=120

l-b=√{(l+b)^{2}-4lb}=√{(23)^{2}-(4×120)}

=√49=7

∴l=15,b=8

∴ Required area of square

=17^2=289m^2
