The progression in which the roots of the equation

6x^3 -11x^2

+ 6x - 1 = 0 lie is

Solution:

Given :

6x^3–11x^2+6x–1=0

Sum of coefficients

=6–11+6–1=0

∴

x=1

is one of the roots.
We can now write the given equation as,

(x–1)(6x^2–5x+1)=0

⇒(x–1)(3x–1)(2x–1)=0

∴x=1/1,1/2,1/3

are the roots and these are in H.P.
