A boat running downstream covers a distance of 30 kms in 2 hours. While coming back the boat takes 6 hours to cover the same distance. If speed of the current is half that of the boat. Find the speed of that boat in km/hr.

Solution:

Downstream speed =

{30}/2

= 15 km/hr; Upstream speed =

{30}/6

= 5 km/hr
Let speed of the boat and speed of the stream be x km/hr and x/2 km/hr respectively, then,

x+x/2

= 15
⇒

{3x}/2

= 15
∴ x = 10 km/hr
