Solution:

If one family leaves early and still the other family was able to catch them, then the family who drives their car at a speed of 60 km must have left before 40 minutes.
Distance covered in 40 minutes =

60 × {40}/{60}

= 40 km
Time taken by the other family to cover a distance of 40 km when the relative speed is 80 - 60 = 20 km
Time taken =

{40}/{20}

= 2 hours
