Solution:

Let distance travelled on foot be x km, then,

x/4 + {61-x}/9

= 9
⇒

{9x+244-4x}/{36}

= 9
⇒ 5x = 36 × 9 – 244
⇒ 5x = 80
∴ x = 16 km
