(x-1)^2+1/(x-1)^2

Solution:

x+1/{x-1}

= 5.
Subtracting 1 from both sides, we get
(x - 1) +

1/(x-1)

= 4.
Squaring both sides, we get

(x-1)^2 +1/(x-1)^2

= 14
