(2) Nana Sahib was proclaimed the Peshwa. General Sir Hugh Wheeler, commanding the station, surrendered on June 27,1857. At Kanpur, Nana Sahib was joined by his able and experienced Lieutenant Tantia Tope. Sir Campbell occupied Kanpur on December 6, 1857.
