(3) The Palk Strait is a straitbetween Tamil Nadu and theMannar district of the NorthernProvince of Sri Lanka. Itconnects the Bay of Bengal inthe northeast with the PalkBay and then with the Gulf ofMannar in the southwest. Thestrait is named after RobertPalk, the governor of MadrasPresidency during 1755-1763.
