1) Ahom is a tribe of Shandescent inhabiting the Assamvalley, and, prior to the invasionof the Burmese at thecommencement of the 19thcentury, the dominant race ofthe region. They ruled much ofAssam from the 13th centuryuntil the establishment ofBritish rule in 1838.
