(3) The first man-made plastic was created by British chemist Alexander Pakes in 1856. Hisplastic Parkesine was created using nitrocellulose. In 1907,Leo Baekeland developed the first completely synthetic plastic, known as Bakelite. Bakelite is a poor conductor of heat and electricity. It is used for making electrical switches, handles of various utensils, etc.
