Solution:

AF = 3 kms, EF = 4 kms
AE:

√ { 3 ^ { 2 } + 4 ^ { 2 } } = √ { 9 + 16 } =√{ 25 } = 5 { kms }

So, he is 5 kms away from the starting point.
