The speed of a car is 36 km/h. How much time (in minutes) will a bus traveling at one-fifth of the speed of the car take to cover a distance of 900 m?

Solution:

Speed of the bus = (1/5) × speed of the car
⇒ Speed of the bus = (1/5) × 36 = 36/5 km/h
⇒ Distance = 900 m = 0.9 km
⇒ Time taken by bus = distance/ Speed of the bus = 0.9/(36/5) = 0.5/4 hour
⇒ Time taken by bus = (5/40) × 60 = 15/2 minutes
∴ Time taken by bus is

minutes.
