An acid/base reacts with Metal:

When an acid reacts with metal then we get salt and hydrogen gas( $\H_2$ ) as a by-product.

Acid + Metal → Salt + Hydrogen gas

The reaction that takes place can be written as follows:

2NaOH+Zn→ $\Na_2\ZnO_2$ (salt)+ $\H_2$
