Solution:

Let the marked price and selling price be 12x and 7x

⇒\Discount % = {\marked\price-\selling\price}/{\marked\price}×100

⇒\Discount % ={12\x-7\x}/{12\x}×100=500/12

⇒ Discount % = 41.67%
∴ The discount percentage is 41.67%.
