An oil of specific gravity 0.8 is flowing a venturi meter having inlet diameter 20 cm and throat diameter of 10 cm. The oil differential manometer shows a reading of 25 cm. Calculate the difference of pressure head. Specific gravity of mercury is 13.6.

Solution:

Given:

S_o = 0.8, x = 0.25 m = 0.2 m,

D_1 = 0.2 m, D_2 = 0.1 m, S_m = 13.6

Now,
Pressure head difference

(h)=x×(S_m/S_0-1)

h=0.25(13.6/0.8−1)

∴ h = 4 m = 400
