A hydraulic turbine runs at 240 rpm under a head of 9 m. What will be the speed (in rpm) of the turbine if operating heat is 16 m ?

Solution:

Given

N_1 = 240

rpm

H_1 = 9 \m

H_2 = 16

N_2 = ?

From turbine model law:

N/√HC,N_1/√H_1=N_2/√H_2

⇒

240/√9=N_2/√16

⇒

{240×4}/3=N_2

∴

N_2=320

rpm
