Two bulbs of rating 230V, 60W and 230V, 100W are connected in parallel across supply mains, Identify the correct statement.

Solution:

For bulb - 1
P = 60 w
V = 230 v

R_1 = V^2 / P = {230× 230} / 60

= 881.66Ω

For bulb - 2
P = 100w
V = 230 v

R_2= V^2/ P

= {230 ×230} / 100

= 23 × 23

= 529Ω

∴ Given circuit reduces to

R_{\TH }= (2 + 3) Ω= 5 Ω.
