Determine the capacitive reactance (in Ohms) of a circuit, if the supplied frequency is 50 Hz and the capacitance of the circuit is micro–Farad.

Solution:

X_C = ?

f = 50 Hz
C = 60 µf
Now

X_C=1/{ωC}

Now

ω=2\π\f

∴X_C=1/{2\π\fC}

=1/{2×3.14×50×60×10^{-6}}

⇒X_C=53.1\Ω
