Two wires of same resistivity have equal length. The cross sectional area of first wire is two times to the area of the other. What will be the resistance (in Ohms) of the wire that has a large cross sectional area, if the resistance of the other wire is 20 Ohms?

Solution:

R=σ/A

Givens Resistivity ‘σ’ and length ‘l’ of both wire is Equal.

R×\l/A

R_1/R_2×A_2/A_1

∵A_1 = 2A_2

is given

R_1/20=A_2/{2A_2}

R_1=10\Ω
