A choke of 20 H carries a current of 600 mA. Calculate the energy stored (in J) in form of magnetic field by the choke.

Solution:

L = 20 H
I = 600 mA = 600 × 10

^{–3}

E = ?
Energy stored (E)

=1 /2 LI^2

=1/2×20×(600×10^{-3})^2

= 10 × 360000 × 10^{–6}

= 36 × 105 × 10^{–6}

= 36 × 10^{–1}

= 3.6 J
