In 5 phase induction motor, 3 phase supply given to stator and rotor winding is short circuited in squirrel cage rotor and short circuited by external resistor in slip ring motor. So it is similar to transformer with shorted secondary. Stator work as primary winding and rotor work as secondary winding.
