Estimate the quantity of 2.5 cm thick Damp-Proof Course required for construction of a room of 4 m × 3 m internal dimensions. Thickness of the wall should be 250 mm. Two windows 2 m width and 1.5 m height and one door 1.5 m width and 2.2 m height are to be provided to the room. The height of room should be 4 m.

Solution:

DPC is a cement concrete mixture along with addition of water proofing compound. It is done at bottom level of wall to prevent seepage.

Shaded area is the portion where DPC is to be done. Its area can be found by using centre line method.Area of DPC = [(Centre line) × wall thickness] – [Door area]
Total centre line = 4.25 × 2 + 3.25 × 2 = 15 m
Quantity of DPC = 15 × .25 – 1.5 × 0.25
∴ Quantity of DPC

= 3.375 \m^2

with 2.5 cm thick
