As given that:
A = 20mm × 20 m = 400 mm

P = 40 KN = 40 × 1000 = 40000
L = 1m = 1000 mm
The modulus of elasticity (E)
= 200 GPa = 200 × 1000
= 200000 N/m

The elongation of the rod ( ∆l)
= (P × L)/(A × E)
= (40 × 1000 × 1000)/(400 × 200 × 1000)
= 0.5mm
