A soil is said to be normally consolidated If the effective overburden pressure that it is currently experiencing is the maximum it has ever experienced in its history.
Over Consolidated Soil:
A soil is said to be over-consolidated if the present overburden pressure is less than the effective overburden pressure it has experienced in the past.
The Co-efficient of Consolidation( $\C_\V$ ):
It is the rate at which saturated soil undergoes consolidation. It is given by the below formula:

\C_\V={\T_\V×\d^2}/\t

Where

= Time Factor, d = drainage path, t = Time
So, The larger the value of the coefficient of consolidation, the shorter it takes for full consolidation to occur because the coefficient of consolidation is inversely proportional to the time of consolidation of soil.
