Calculate the quantity (cubic meter) of the earthwork for a canal of 50 m long. Depths of canal at two extreme sections are 3 m and 5 m.
The bottom width and top width of the canal are 2 m and 4 m. Use midsection method.

Validate

Solution:

Top width of canal = 4m
Bottom width of canal = 2m
Earth work of canal = 50m long
Height of two extremes is 3 m and 5 m. By mid section method

A_1=1/2(2+4)×3=9\m^2

A_1=1/2(2+4)×5=15\m^2

V=d({A_1+A_2}/2)

=50({9+15}/2)=600\m^3
