Assumptions of Rankine theory:- → The soil mass in homogenous, isotropic, semifinite, elastic, dry and cohesionless. → The ground surfaces in planar which may be horizontal or inclined. → The face of wall in contact with backfill is vertical and smooth. → The soil is in the state of plastic equilibrium in positive and active earth pressure condition. → The rupture surface is planar.
