In paints, methylated spirit, naphtha and turpentine are used as a solvent. Solvent (or thinner) is a volatile liquid added to prepare paint to increase fluidity thus workability and ease of application. It helps penetration of paint in porous surfaces. Turpentine oil is most common thinner or solvent.
