If the edge is tripled, new edge length $=3\mathit{a}$
New volume $={\left(3\mathit{a}\right)}^3$
⇒ New volume $=27{\mathit{a}}^3$
The increase in volume $=$ New volume $∕$ Original volume
⇒ Increase in volume $=27{\mathit{a}}^3∕{\mathit{a}}^3$
⇒ Increase in volume $=27$
