Nitin has ₹1617 with him. He divided it amongst his sons Pravin and Rishi and asked them to invest it at 10% rate of interest compounded annually. It was seen that Pravin and Rishi got same amount after 17 and 18 years respectively. How much (in ₹) did Nitin give to Pravin?

A=P(1+r \/ 100)^t

Calculation:
Since both get the same amount after their respective periods, we can equate their amounts:

\;P_1(1+10 \/ 100)^{17}=P_2(1+10 \/ 100)^{18}

\;⇒ P_1(1.1)^{17}=P_2(1.1)^{18}

\;⇒ P_1=P_2(1.1)

Let

P _2= x

P_1=1.1 x

Total Amount

= P _1+ P _2

1617=1.1 x+x

1617=2.1 x

⇒ x=1617 \/ 2.1

⇒ x=770

So,

P _2=₹ 770

P_1=1.1 × 770=₹ 847
