(1) Let the buses meet afterx hours.
∴ Distance travelled by bus A inx hours = 40x km; and distancetravelled by bus B = 50x km
According to the question,
$40\mathit{x}+50\mathit{x}=180$
$\Rightarrow 90\mathit{x}=180$
$\Rightarrow \mathit{x}=2$
∴ The buses will meet after 2 hours.
