Raina drives 4 km towards west of his home and then goes 5 km north. He then drives 6 km towards south. How far is he from his home?

Solution:

(1) Raina starts from point O andfinally moves to point C.
Required distance = OC

= √{OA^2+AC^2}

AC = BC – AB ⇒6 km – 5 km = 1km
OC

= √{4^2 +1^2} = √17 km
