A garden is 46 m long and 28 m wide. There is a 2 m wide path outside the garden along its sides. If the path is to be covered with square tiles of dimension 40 cm×40 cm, find the number of tiles required to cover the path.

Solution:

(3) Area of path = Area of gardenwith path – Area of garden withoutpath

= (50 ×32)-(46× 28)

= 1600 -1288 = 312 m^2

∴ No. of tiles required =

{Area of path in cm}/{Area of one tile}=

{(312× 100 ×100)cm^2}/{40× 40cm^2}=1950
