The original salaries of Manohar and Ramit were in the ratio 2 : 3. After their yearly appraisal, the salary of each increased by ₹ 4,000. The new ratio becomes 40 : 57. What is Ramit's salary after the increment?

Solution:

(1) Let Manohar's salary = 2􀝔;Ramit's salary = 3x
If their salary increases by 4000,
then

{ 2×+ 4000}/{3×+400}= 40/57

57 (2x + 4000) = 40(3x + 4000)

⇒

114x + 228000 = 120x +160000

⇒

6x = 68000

⇒

3x = 34000

Therefore, Ramit's present salary

= ₹(34,000 + 4,000) = ₹38,000
