(1) Let the present ages of man andson be M and S, respectively.
According to the question,$\frac{\left(\mathit{M}+\mathit{S}\right)}{2}=30$
$\mathit{M}+\mathit{S}=60$ ……...…… (1)
Also,$\frac{\mathit{M}\mathit{–}4}{\mathit{S}\mathit{–}4}=\frac{10}{3}$
$10\mathit{S}\mathit{–}3\mathit{M}=28$………… (2)
On solving (1) and (2), we get
S = 16 and M = 44
Therefore, M – S = 28 years.
