Radius of a circle is increased by 200%. What is the percentage increase in the area of the circle?

Solution:

(1) Let r be the original radius ofcircle
Original area

= πr^2

New radius

= r + 200%

r = 3r

New area =

π × (3r)^2 = 9 πr^2

Increase in area

= 9 π r^2 –πr^2= 8 πr2

Percentage increase in area =

{8πr^2}/{πr^2}×100 = 800%
