A student went to take tuition from a Physics tutor. He went 90 m to the east from his home and then turned right. He then went 20 m and again turned right and went to a friend’s house which is 30 m from that point. From his friend’s house, he went 100 m to his north to reach his tutor’s home. How far is his tutor’s home from his home?

Solution:

In the figure given above, we cansee that the distance between thestudent’s and his tutor’s home isAF.

AF^2 = AE^2 + EF^2

= 60^2 + 80^2

= √(60^2 + 80^2)

= √ (3600 + 6400)

= √10000

= 100 m
