The monthly incomes of Meera and Vinita are in the ratio 4 : 5, their expenses are in the ratio 5 : 6. If Meera saves ₹ 25 per month and Vinita saves `50 per month, what are their respective incomes?

Solution:

(1) Let Meera’ income = 4x; Vinita’sincome = 5x
Therefore, Meera’s expenses= 4x -25
And Vinita’s expenses = 5x - 50
The given ratio between theirexpenses is zr>

{4x-25} /{5x-50 }=5/6

⇒ 6 (4x – 25) = 5(5x – 50)
⇒ 24x − 150 = 25x − 250
x = 100
Thus, Meera’ income = `400;Vinita’s income = `500
