If sec θ + tan θ = 2, then the value of sec θ is

Solution:

(3)We know that,

\sec ^{2} \θ-\tan ^{2} \θ=1

⇒(\sec \θ+\tan \θ)(\sec \θ-\tan \θ)=1

\sec \θ-\tan \θ=\ {1}/{\sec \θ+\tan \θ}= {1}/{2}

And, sec θ+ tan θ =2 ; therefore using elimination method in both the equations.

2 \sec \θ=2+ {1}/{2}= {5}/{2} ⇒ \sec \θ= {5}/{4}
