The sum of the present ages of A, B and C is 90 years. Six years ago, their ages were in the ratio 3 :2 :1 . What is the present age of C?

Solution:

Let the present ages be A, B and C
And the ages 6 years back be 3x, 2x, x
A + B + C = 90

(A - 6) + (B - 6) + (C - 6)

= 90 - 18

then

3x + 2x + x = 90 - 18

6x = 72

x = 12

The present age of

C = 12 + 6 = 18

years
