Let the age of the youngest child be x.
Then, the ages of 6 children can be written as x, (x + 2), (x + 4), (x + 6) ,(x + 8) and (x + 10).
x + (x + 2) + (x + 4) + (x + 6) + (x + 8) + (x +10) = 54
⇒ 6x + 30 = 54
⇒ 6x = 24
⇒ x = 4
Then, the second youngest child is (x + 2)
= (4 + 2) = 6 years
