Edward Jenner, an English physician and scientist, developed smallpox vaccine, the world’s first vaccine in 1798. He is called ‘'the father of immunology”, and his work is said to have “saved more lives than the work of any other human.” Jenner coined the word vaccine from the Latin ‘vacca’ for cow.
