The IUPAC name baking soda (Sodium bicarbonate) is Sodium Hydrogen Carbonate. It is a chemical compound with the formula NaHCO${}_3$. It is a salt composed of a sodium cation (Na${}^{+}$) and a bicarbonate anion (HCO${}_3^{-}$). It is primarily used in cooking (baking), as a leavening agent.
