A certain number of men can complete a piece of work in 40 days. If there were 8 men more the work could be finished in 10 days less. How many men were there afterwards?

Validate

Solution:

Let the number of men be x.
x men can do a work in 40 days.
(x + 8) men can do the same work in (40 - 10)days = 30 days
⇒ x × 40 = 30 (x + 8)
⇒ 40x = 30x + 240
⇒ 10x = 240
⇒

x=240/10=24

So the number of men afterwards = 24 + 8 = 32 men
