A canyon is a deep and narrow valley consisting of steep sides created by weat-hering and erosion by rivers, wind, rain and tectonic activity. Rivers have a natural capability to gorge through underlying surfaces, so they ultimately weather and carry away rock layers. A series of events leads up to the formation of a canyon.
