Ascorbic acid is one form (“vitamer”) of vitamin C. The new name, ascorbic acid, is derived from a- (meaning “no”) and scorbutus (scurvy), the disease caused by a deficiency of vitamin C. It is found naturally in citrus fruits and many vegetables.
