What is the average number of children per house?

Solution:

Total number of houses = 6 + 16 + 15 + 3 = 40
Total children =

(0×6)+(1×16)

+(2×15)+(3×3)

= 16 + 30 + 9 = 55
∴ Average number of children per house =

55/40=1.38
