Let the marked price of item = Rs. 100x
Amount after 25 % discount = $100\mathit{x}-\frac{25}{100}\times 100\mathit{x}$
= $100\mathit{x}-25\mathit{x}=\mathit{R}\mathit{s}.75\mathit{x}$
Selling price after 8 % cashback $=75\mathit{x}-\frac{8}{100}\times 75\mathit{x}$
= 75x − 6x = Rs.69x
⇒ Total discounted amount = 100x − 69x = Rs.31x
∴ Effective discount = $\frac{31\mathit{x}}{100\mathit{x}}\times 100=31\%$
