P and Q can do a project in 150 and 100 days respectively. In how many days can they complete 60% of the project if they work together?

Solution:

Let total project to be done = 300 units
P's efficiency =

300/150

= units/day
Q's efficiency =

300/100

= units/day
60% of the work =

60/100×300

= 180 units
(P + Q)'s 1 day's efficiency = 2 + 3 = 5 units/day
∴ Time taken by them to complete 60% of the work together =

180/5=36

days
